About Me

Have you ever felt like you're constantly battling your body, chasing goals that seem impossible to reach, and dwelling on a love and hate relationship with food?

I used to feel like that. My teenage years were riddled with yo-yo dieting, anxiety, and a deep disconnect from my body.
Like you and me, millions of people struggle with body image, eating disorders, and the pressure to follow a “perfect” diet.
Through my own journey, I discovered the power of orthomolecular nutrition and the crucial connection between mind and body.
What started as a weight loss chase, became a self-discovery, self-acceptance, and living a fulfilling life-incredible journey!”

My Teenage Battles

At high school, I dwelled with 3 eating disorders:

ANOREXIA at age 14: I would stay over 24 h with no food in the hopes that I could lose weight that way.

BULIMIA at age 15: not being able to sustain fasting I tried solving my binge eating by self provoking drug-induced diarrhea weekly (that didn’t give me any results and it became a huge gut health bill to pay later).

COMPULSIVE EATING at age 16: I gave up on dieting and gained over 30 lbs in 5 months due to anxious eating.

2008

My Teenage Battles

High school wasn’t easy. I battled eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia, desperately seeking weight loss through unhealthy means. The yo-yo dieting and unrealistic expectations took a toll on my body and self-esteem.

A Flawed Solution

Desperate for a quick fix, I tried a doctor-prescribed weight-loss drug with negative side effects. It became clear that restrictive diets and magic solutions weren’t the answer as I was still obsessed with what I shouldn’t eat. This experience fueled my commitment to find a sustainable approach to health.

A Flawed Solution

A doctor once prescribed me sibutramine (an appetite suppressant drug that was banned in the U.S. in 2010), and which I became dependent on.

From 2008 to 2010 I battled with the yo-yo effect and tried the craziest diets possible at the time: “the moon diet”, “the meditation diet”, “the points diet” and so on… I once blended ¼ cup of raw white beans with orange juice because a magazine said so!

It clearly didn’t work, but I’ll never forget that awful taste, and that later I learned raw beans are so toxic it could even kill you!

2012

Learning & Growth

It’s important for you to know that I've been where you are and I understand your urgency! But my “cure” certainly didn’t happen overnight:

My Bachelor in Nutrition helped me understand the importance of each nutrient and why restrictive diets are not efficient.

My Master in Sports Nutrition was essential to understand why exercising is so important not only for weight loss but wellbeing, immunity, longevity and mental health.

Both degrees showed me it is impossible to seek performance with a deficient body, which birthed my business name Holistic HEALTH (first) and (then) PERFORMANCE.

2016

Learning & Growth

Education became my key. My studies in nutrition and sports science revealed the importance of proper nutrition for overall well-being, not just weight loss. I learned that exercise is crucial for physical and mental health, and a stressed body can’t perform at its best. This holistic approach became the foundation of my philosophy.

Beyond the Scale

By 2018, I’d finally achieved a healthy relationship with food. However, new challenges arose: acne and burnout.

Beyond the Scale

Guess what: by 2018 I was finally at peace with the scale! (yay!) I wasn’t even thinking about weight loss or dieting anymore.

But that’s when another 2 strikes came: ACNE and BURNOUT.

Imagine that! Acne in adult life??

My first acne signs started back in 2015 but they worsen every year. Back to drug prescriptions: tetracyclines twice (an antibiotic taken for consecutive months), accutane (over 13 months of treatment, awful side effects, and when I stopped taking it, acne came back), spironolactone (also twice, minimal results).

None of them were a long lasting solution for me because none were looking at the root cause of the problem.

2017

The Root Cause

In 2018, I started my 2nd Master degree in Orthomolecular Science and Nutraceuticals. This is when I fully understood the SKIN-GUT-BRAIN axis.

Wow.

Now let’s go back and analyze: I haven’t given my gut much love until that point (as mentioned in 2007). Between 2015 and 2018 I experienced a huge growth in my career, worked excessive hours and was now feeling disconnected from it (burnout symptoms). And, I was struggling with acne.

I understood the crucial connection between mind and body and started focusing my work on a more holistic approach and not only numbers and segmented science.

2018

The Root Cause

Through orthomolecular science, I discovered the powerful link between gut health, skin, and brain function. This “aha” moment explained the connection between my past struggles with gut health and the emergence of acne alongside burnout. The stress of career success, despite its rewards, highlighted the mind-body connection I now emphasize in my work.

A Sustainable Approach

My approach focuses on addressing the root causes of imbalances for long-term health. This includes:

  • Orthomolecular Expertise: targeting underlying issues for lasting results.
  • Education: empowering you to make informed choices about your well-being.
  • Balance: promoting a healthy lifestyle that allows for occasional indulgences and prioritizes rest.

A Sustainable Approach

The knowledge I gathered along these years is my secret to not fall into bad habits.

Knowing the outcome of each choice gives you clarity to make well informed decisions and live a balanced life free of guilt.

It connects you with your body in such a joyful way that following a healthy lifestyle is light and fun and not just about being disciplined.
